Hello Neighbors,
We hope this post finds everyone well. Off to another great year here at the Oasis and just trying to keep on top of tasks and new information coming our way! The weather has been very warm already and we are seeing some early growth this year so all of you allergies sufferers beware!
I hope you all saved the date of April 10th this year for the community picnic. It is that time that we need a headcount to properly prepare food costs. Please take a moment to sign up in the box below indicating how many people you expect to attend in your household. BBQ will be provided as well as sides, dessert, and water. The event will be in the usual location by the Pump House off of the Los Feliz entrance & Anozira Parkway. The time will either be 3-6 or 4-7 depending on daylight available. We will confirm this as we get closer.
We are currently doing a landscaping contract review to see if it makes sense to change vendors. We are bidding 3 companies total including our current company of Somerset. The board will be reviewing and looking to make the best decision for the future and safety of our community.
We have had some recent interest and discussion in keeping a portion of wall open on the East side of the community. These walls were closed over 10 years ago but now that there are some retail shops on this side we have had increased interest in having a more accessible opening for the homeowners on the Southeast side of the neighborhood. A separate post will follow this for you to input your comments towards this decision.
The neighborhood financials continue to be strong as we continue to fine tune all of the aspects of the reserves for both short and long term needs. Even with getting many items up to date in the community we have not depleted our reserve amounts. With our continued efforts to streamline and do some mindful planning we should be able to have a better idea of what the true allocation of our reserve funds will go to.
We have many people behind on their dues by only $2 and that is usually due to not changing your Bill Pay setup at your bank to reflect the new monthly dues for 2016. Please make sure you have this taken care of. Good news if you are using ACH (automatic withdrawal from Kinney), your dues get adjusted automatically, you don’t have to get a new payment book, and you save the neighborhood money with this type of automation! I would encourage all of you to sign up if you have not done so already!
We hope everyone is having a great 2016 and not getting too bogged down with tax season in the works!

The sun goes down at 6:56p on April 10th.
I was on the board when we closed the wall on the east side. The problem was mail theft and house break-ins. The mail boxes for that area were near that wall and were frequently broken into. Homes were broken into. The neighbors over there asked that those openings (I think there were two) both be closed – not gated but closed. The criminal activity all stopped when we closed the walls. I would hesitate opening up the back side of the community there again. We also closed the opening in our north wall along the canal for the because of break-ins. That stopped. Of course, it is open at the north end of that east wall but that wasn’t the problem. People could see the opening on the south end of the east wall from the street and took advantage of it.
This landscaping group has done a good job. I live on the lake and it has been kept very nice. A good landscape company is really hard to find. If you like their work, don’t let money drive the process for a new one. It is good to go out to bid ever so often to keep folks on their toes but if you like them, keep them. Landscaping is a big part of these community HOAs.

Thanks for the feedback. There will be a follow-up survey for wall opinions. In regards to the landscape. We are not looking based on price as Somerset is very reasonable and does a very nice job. The landscape companies have not been bid out since 2008 so we are looking for that reason as well as liability and tracking reasons. Newer technology is allowing for better tracking of tree trimming, root pruning, irrigation monitoring and overall mapping of the community. Streamlining the process is what we are looking to possibly achieve.
